A year overdue, boutique hotel expected to break ground in Greenville's West End (4)

GREENVILLE — After much delay, developers have released a new construction timeline for the boutique hotel coming to the corner of North Markley and Rhett streets in downtown Greenville's West End district.

The Vardry Kimpton, a quasi-hotel and condominium project coming within a few hundred feet of Fluor Field, will likely break ground later this year.

The eight-story hotel will feature 116 rooms. The top three floors will house 29 private condominiums, ranging from 1,500 to more than 5,000 square feet with options for two to four bedrooms.

The project has experienced numerous delays since it was first presented to the city’s Design Review Board in early 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic led the developers to modify the project mid-2021.

The Post and Courier reported that the boutique hotel would break ground in November 2022, but that didn'thappen.

Brad Weiser, a principal with the hotel’s management company, told The Post and Courier that the delay was because of fluctuating construction costs.

Weiser said the new goal was to start in mid-2023. That also didn't happen.

According to a brochure for the property, the expected opening date is early 2026.

The developer, Keene Development, didn't respond to requests for comment on the updated timeline.
