Best XDefiant Controller Settings For PS5 And Xbox Series X/S (Best Aim Assist and Sensitivity Settings To Improve Your Aim) - GAME ENGAGE (2024)

If you’re getting into Ubisoft’s new FPS game and play on a controller, you’ll want to know the best XDefiant Controller Settings for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Heavily taking inspiration from Call of Duty, the game has a lot of similarities when it comes to Controller settings.

Below are our recommended settings for your controller.

Table Of Contents

How To Change Your Controller Settings

In-game you’ll need to press the Menu/Start button.

Click the right thumbstick inwards to bring up the settings menu.

Scroll down to the ‘Controller tab’.

Here are the best controller settings and advice when customising yours.

Layout

  • Button Layout
    • Brawler
  • Stick Layout
    • Default

Depending on how you typically play games like Call of Duty, you’re probably looking at either Default or Brawler as your button layout.

The major difference is the change in melee and crouch buttons. Default has Melee on ‘B’ for Xbox and ‘O’ for PlayStation, while Brawler switches these around.

I’ve used the later setting on Call of Duty for years as I don’t melee that often, but I also have a controller with back paddles and I utilise the Crouch and slide mechanic far more.

Aim Assist

  • Aim Assist
    • Standard
  • Aim Assist Strength
    • 0
  • Aim Assist Follow
    • 0
  • Aim Response Curve Type
    • Linear

Of course, if you’re playing on the controller you’ll want to turn Aim Assist on and there is only one option, which makes life easier.

Equally, the Strength and follow can only be turned down – which means you’ll get less assistance typically. These settings also shouldn’t be touched.

With Aim Response Curve Type, I’ve tried all three (Standard, Linear and Reverse-S Curve) and I prefer Linear.

I use Linear on Call of Duty as I find it to be the most consistent with results. As it says, the speed at which you move the stick is directly replicated on the screen.

If you’re not sure which Aim Assist works best go with Standard for simplicity – it’s probably the best Aim Assist for long distance.

If you use Dynamic Aim Assist in Call of Duty, you should use Reverse S-Curve – it’s probably the best Aim Assist for short distances.

If you’re finding an inconsistency in the Aim Assist and have experience, go with Linear – it’s probably the best all-round Aim Assist.

Sensitivity

  • Horizontal Sensitivity
    • 31
  • Vertical Sensitivity
    • 24
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplieer
    • 0.88x
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplier
    • 1.00x
  • Dead Zone – Left Stick
    • 10
  • Dead Zone – Right Stick
    • 10
  • Acceleration Speed Multiplier
    • 1.00x

When it comes to Horizontal and Vertical Sensitivity, a lot of Call of Duty and Apex Legends players are running a sensitivity in the 30-30 region.

I naturally run a much lower sensitivity on Call of Duty, usually in the 5-4 or 6-5 region (horizontal-vertical).

XDefiant has a really quick and responsive sensitivity. By that I mean you can run a higher sensitivity and have more control over your aim that Call of Duty. However, there’s a definitely a disparity between the Horizontal and Vertical sensitivity causing there to be a jagged and erratic movement, compared to the smooth, fluid and even aiming rate in COD.

I’ve turned my Vertical sensitivity down to combat this, but this is also something I would do as there are far less vertical fights. You’re going to be correcting your aim far more in a side-to-side action than an up and down motion; especially as there’s more to aim at from head to toe compared to the sides of the body.

I’ve also reduced the ADS sensitivity multiplier because I find the difference between walking unscoped compared to being scoped almost the same and it is very jarring as this isn’t something I’m used to with other FPS games.

Overall, it’s made my aim far more precise and has replicated a more comfortable experience that I’m used to on COD.

The Deadzones are set to 10 by default, I’ve left these as they are to reduce the chances of any unintended movements. If you are finding that you are making unusual small inputs with your thumbs that aren’t intentional, try turning these up. If you find you’re making small adjustment and not getting an appropriate response, turn these down. Equally, if you have a lot of stick drift, turn these up. If you don’t think you have any issues here, leave it as it is.

Acceleration Speed Multiplier I’ve left at its default value as I don’t tend to find myself rapidly spinning around or turning. This is something that really should only be tampered with if you play on a really low sensitivity to speed up your turns.

Axis

  • Invert Horizontal Axis
    • Off
  • Invert Vertical Axis
    • Off

These are off by default, only turn them on if you like to play with an inverted stick layout – this will cause your aim to look up when point down, and look down when you point up.

Equally, when you point left, you’ll look right and when you point right you’ll look left.

Extra

Here are a few other settings that aren’t in the controller tab that I would recommend tinkering with to ensure you have the best aim possible:

  • Gameplay & UI
    • Field of View
      • 120
    • ADS Field of View
      • Consistent
    • ADS Sensitivity Transition
      • Instant
    • Aiming Interrupts Reload
      • On
    • Crouch Behaviour
      • Toggle
    • Sprint Behavior
      • Tap
    • Auto Sprint
      • Off
    • Sprint Interrupt Reload
      • On

I’d also recommend adjusting your Video & Graphics settings to improve your aim as the better performance the game has, the better FPS you’ll get and the better aim you’ll receive.
