The Irregulars have solved their last case. Netflix has cancelled the Sherlock Holmes-adjacent drama after one season, Deadline reports. [pmc_inline_gallery]

Set in Victorian London, the short-lived series focused on a gang of troubled street teens who were manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Dr. John Watson (The Witcher‘s Royce Pierreson) and his mysterious business partner, Sherlock Holmes (played by Killing Eve‘s Henry Lloyd-Hughes). The young ensemble included Thaddea Graham (The Letter for the King) as Bea, McKell David (Black Mirror) as Spike; Jojo Macari (Sex Education) as Billy and Darcy Shaw (The Bay) as Bea’s sister Jessie.

TVLine readers gave the series premiere an average grade of “B.” All eight episodes dropped March 26.

The Irregulars is the latest in a string of Netflix cancellations, following The Duchess, Hoops, Queen Sono, The Order and Away. Additional originals set to end includeCastlevania (which drops its fourth and final season on May 13) and The Last Kingdom (which will wrap with Season 5).

Fans of the elusive Sherlock Holmes will soon have to look elsewhere for their Victorian mystery fix: In addition to pink-slipping The Irregulars, Netflix is foregoing the rights to all four seasons of the acclaimed Sherlock (starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) as of May 14.

TVLine’s Streaming Scorecard has been updated to reflectThe Irregulars‘ demise. Are you sad that there won’t be a Season 2?

    • Yup or get one good series of anything and have to wait Year’s for another one

  2. My daughter and I loved this show so we are sad they didn’t renew it

    Reply

    • It is horrible that you would watch a show about kids mobsters with your child. What kind of values are you teaching her???

      Reply

      • Worry about your own kids, Ms. Judgemental. Who made you the Supreme Parent?

        Reply

      • That’s the most ridiculous comment I’ve ever read in my life.

        • That daughter might be 27 for all we know!!

Dale a tu cuerpo alegria, macarena
        eh, MACARENA, aha.

Macarena tiene un novio que se llama,
que se llama de apellido Vitorino,
y en la jura de bandera del muchacho
se la dio con dos amigos….

  3. Come on, this is lame. It is a great show, give it a chance for once netflix, you cancel too fast.

    Reply

    • Or they drag their dedicated fanbases out without a decision to renew or cancel for almost a year.

      Reply

      • Dedicated? The show sunk from the NF-most watched list faster than a speeding bullet.

        Reply

  4. I tried it and just couldn’t get through the first episode. It’s just getting harder and harder with all these streaming services.

I would prefer to watch a proper Sherlock Holmes series and/or get a sequel to Enola Holmes.

    Reply

  5. I saw the trailer and it did nothing for me. To be honest I am not enjoying this trend of taking a franchise and adding a darker, even horror spin to it.

    Reply

    • Agreed

      Reply

    • Then don’t watch it. That’s ALWAYS an option!

      Reply

  6. Darn, it was good. I don’t get some of these decisions.

    Reply

  7. Enjoyed it more than Shadow and Bone, but ok.

    Reply

    • I know I watched Shadow and….. BUT I can’t remember a damn thing about it. Not a good sign for my brain or the storyline. I do remember Lock and Key where they can put a special key into your neck and unlock invisble doors and stuff. RIGHT? I guess I will give Irregulars a chance. Enola Holmes is very entertaining. And Macarena’s comments about a parenting is just a folly. Right?

      Reply

    • Shadow and Bone wasn’t that better either, there was this girl choosing between a childhood friend and the dark and mysterious stranger, but the rest was confusing with characters and heists that hay nothing to do with the story. And way too many factions or nations to keep track of.

      Reply

      • The show is based on books most of the nations and factions you mentioned are important for later seasons.
And also they merged the storylines of 2 books
the heist stuff involves characters from the six of crows books which is a sequel to the shadow and borne book. So effectively we are seeing a prequel with those characters who are from a different location to Alina.
The show isnt really confusing if you have watched or read magical fantasy books or series.
The show is taking place in a big world with multiple characters and location(countries).

The easier storyline to latch onto is the one about Alina thats pretty much by the numbers YA
        Girl discovers she has powers
        trains
        gets stronger
discovers what she thought was the truth isnt
        runs
and eventually has a showdown with the big bad

I think the show is fun but its a even more enjoyable experience for fans of the books who saw foreshadowing threads most people couldnt tell
        Jaspers skills
Kaz cane and why he uses it
Nina’s future purpose in the story

Game of thrones was the biggest show of our generation and that show actually had way more locations to keep track of so I think this show is okay.
Personally I love shows with great worldbuilding and this show made the world in the feel really big.

        Reply

    • I did too.

      Reply

  8. I enjoyed it but these shows are kind of all the same.

    Reply

  9. That is what you get when you turn a classic character into something he isn’t, they’ve turned Sherlock into an evil person, Watson too and the kids are basically an organized criminal society. Disgusting and deservedly cancelled.

    Reply

    • It truly was the worst depiction of Holmes and Watson I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of weird Holmes projects. It is a shame they had to do that because certain elements and characters were appealing.

      Reply

        • If it is that horrible I guess I will remove it from my watch list. New Harlan Corben series are coming…..

          Reply

      • I agree and I think that’s where this showed failed. You can’t take two historically established characters like Watson and Holmes and turn them into two completely different characters. They were poorly portrayed and written.

        Reply

    • Sherlock wasn’t evil, just incredibly pathetic. Watson was evil and selfish. They are the worst adaptation of sherlock and watson, indeed.

      Reply

  10. According to Netflix’s own crazy Top Ten list, The Irregulars was very popular. For weeks. You would think that with all their billions spent on new programming they would be more transparent about their ratings so viewers won’t get attached to ‘hit’ shows only to see them cancelled. Alas, they’ll end up just like the broadcast networks and start filling their schedules with generic cop, medical and procedurals shows and reality junk. Programming like that is exactly why I watch Netflix and the other streamers. These big monolithic corporations do not care about viewers.

    Reply

    • Netflix is already like the broadcast networks. I only watch the first season of a new series if it is a romance or family drama. When a second season is announced, then I decide to watch a first season. The show Northern Rescue is a perfect example; it should have been presented as a Limited Series. Many foreign shows should also be limited series.

      Reply

      • From articles posted online it appears that Northern Rescue has not been confirmed nor denied for a second season, so I’m still holding out hope on that one. It was not really in my wheel house of show favourites but it was a good family drama with a decent story line.

        Reply

    • Netflix counts anyone who watches for two minutes in those numbers. So those numbers reflect a huge amount of awareness of and interest in the premise of the show. Thus, tons of people watched for two minutes. Very few probably made it to five minutes. I know I didn’t. This is exactly the kind of show I should love. On paper. By the time “Watson” showed up, I had seen enough to know I was out.

      Reply

  11. I thought the Irregulars was a really good series. Can’t believe they didn’t renew.

    Reply

  12. Looks to me as if it was planned to be a one-and-done. The main story actually finished. The popularity could have caught Netflix by surprise.

    Reply

    • The ending was rather neatly tied up, albeit melancholy, so fortunately we’re not dealing with a torturous cliffhanger for the remainder of eternity. It’s disappointing because so much more could have been developed within plot and character. So much promise…what a shame.

      Reply

  13. Tried to watch after finishing Shadow n Bone. Pretty difficult to finish. Stuck on ep 4. Not that good.

    Reply

  14. I loved this show, and this makes me sad. The problem with it was the Sherlock Holmes element, which it did not need at all. It was great all on its own. Boo.

    Reply

  15. Glad I didn’t start

    Reply

  16. Good! This doesn’t surprise me one bit, you can’t kept milking a franchise that wasn’t your own creation by turning its origin characters into feckless drunks

    Reply

  17. That is too bad as that was a great show.

    Reply

  18. It was definitely a less weird show than Bridgerton.

    Reply

  19. I loved season 1, but when it never went to #1 in Canada and peaked at #3 I kind of figured it might get cancelled. Too bad great show! Sad when a very diverse creative show gets cut.

    Reply

    • Netflix just isn’t making good shows the way they used to anymore, they need to take the focus off modern meets history young adult soap shows that are almost all the same just with a different setting and make some quality content with an adult cast and no soap drama.

      Reply

  20. It wasn’t great, but I liked it more than The Nevers. Shadow and Bone may have just slid above this one due to the Crows story, but that one wasn’t great either. Need a god new fantasy series.

    Reply

    • The Nevers seemed like a Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children made for Victorian women, interesting to see wich power was displayed by which “Never”, but not interesting enough to stick around more than 2 episodios.

      Reply

  21. Interesting characters, but the plot seemed to be headed nowhere. I watched the available episodes a few weeks back and then completely forgot about them. It sort of reminded me of the Runaways. The modern soundtrack was disjointed.

    Reply

  22. Woke don’t work. When are they going to learn.

    Reply

    • The show had a TON of problems, being “woke” wasn’t one of them.

There are a TON of shows that you would label “woke” that are extremely successful. Heck, Netflix’s 4 biggest recent successes (Bridgerton, Queen Gambit, Ratched, and Shadow and Bone) are all considered “woke” and are massive hits.

      Reply

  23. Quite like the show, but not sure there are much more to do after that finale

    Reply

  24. I actually enjoyed the Irregulars. Wish it would have gotten a close of more seasons.

    Reply

  25. The sentence should of read a couple of more seasons.
